Bugis is one of Singapore’s most electric neighbourhoods after dark. Tucked between the bustle of Arab Street and the glow of Bugis Junction, this part of town has quietly become home to some of the city’s most interesting bar experiences — and Joo Bar sits right at its heart.
What Makes Bugis Singapore’s Best Bar Neighbourhood?
Unlike Clarke Quay’s tourist-heavy strip or the polished hotel bars of Orchard, Bugis has a genuine neighbourhood feel. The bars here are smaller, more personal, and — crucially — more interesting. You’ll find craft cocktail spots sitting alongside dive bars, rooftop terraces, and hole-in-the-wall jazz venues, all within a few minutes’ walk of each other.
For anyone serious about a great night out in Singapore, Bugis deserves its place at the top of the list.
Joo Bar: A Bugis Institution
Joo Bar has been part of the Bugis drinking scene long enough to earn the kind of loyalty that most bars can only dream of. Walk in on a Friday night and you’ll find regulars who’ve been coming for years, mixed with newcomers discovering it for the first time.
The cocktail menu leans into balance — drinks that are well-made without being pretentious, strong enough to mean something, and priced for a night that actually goes somewhere. The food holds its own too, which is more than you can say for most bar kitchens in the area.
It’s a good time to visit — or come back if it’s been a while. Get in touch or check our shop for merchandise while you’re at it.
